> Problem with Sony Ericsson File Manager

All of a sudden, as if from nowhere, I'm having problems with the Sony Ericsson File Manager application ("My Phones") with my K700i. The phone is 100% connected to the computer (the mobile phone monitor shows it is connected with the black phone and a green tick in the taskbar), but when I go into File Manager, it doesn't come up with my phone. It has been working successfully for nearly a couple of years (first of all with my T610 and then with my K700i) but has stopped working for no reason.
I have tried uninstalling every Sony Ericsson application, deleting every last redundant registry entry and files/folders, and reinstalling, but it still won't work.
Incidentally, I have tried via Bluetooth and a DSS-25 connection. Both connect fine, but File Explorer doesn't detect the phone for some reason. The relevant ports are enabled in Mobile Phone Monitor.
Any ideas? It's not the end of the world but I like this app.

1.Are the other things like MMS studio and sync station working?
2.For bluetooth try re-pairing the phone to PC.
3. Switch the phone on and off...
4. Also try to use the file structure on the phone like delete some files and stuff... Maybe soemthing with the phone...

Thanks for the replies guys, but no luck I'm afraid.
Everything is set up correctly, COM ports included. The phone connected absolutely fine, but "My Phones" just says not connected.

I'm wondering if perhaps a Windows Update has caused this? After all, the SE File Manager does work as part of Windows Explorer. Nothing else has been changed on my system...

I've contacted Sony Ericsson customer support for this and here's the reply:
--------------------------------------------------------------
It is not possible to give a full list of applications that can cause issues because any program that uses COM Ports (and IP communications for P Series) can potentially interfere. However, the most common programs are the following:
1. Anti-virus software and Firewall software
Try temporarily disabling them (turning them off) so that they do not block the connection.
Usually this can be done from their respective icons in the system tray or refer to the support for the anti-virus or firewall
If one or both of these has been blocking the connection it may be possible to configure the Anti-virus and/or Firewall so they can be left running during synchronization (see Section 6.2 of the PC Suite Readme.txt file)
With McAfee Anti-virus or Firewall the PC Suite should be reinstalled with this turned off
2. Spy ware
Spy ware can interfere so run a program such as Spybot (www.spybot.com) or Ad aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) to remove the spy ware.
3. Pop-up blocking software
Try temporarily disabling this to see if it is the cause of the problem.
4. Search bar software
Look through the list of Programs in Control Panel - Add/remove programs for any Search bar software (usually its obvious from the name of the program) and remove or disable it.
5. Other synchronization software for other phones, PDAs (notebook computers) or Wireless LAN cards
Such software can conflict and should be removed, i.e. uninstalled. This includes software for other Sony Ericsson phones Antenna connector center pin broken-off/bent /customer abuse
--------------------------------------------------------------
now, the funny thing, that I spent half day uninstalling all these things and removing the spyware and search tool bar ... etc.
then I re-installed Sony Ericsson PC Suite again
after this, the stupid File Manager still showing 'not connected'
this is the most shitiest problem I've ever had, if any one can help with this ... please do

Have you definitely got the latest version installed? They have made several revisions recently. Out of interest what does file manager offer in the way of advantages? I tried it initially but then removed it when I moved to BT as the standard BT software provided all the necessary abilities to transfer files using Windows Explorer...although I have not tried it with XP SP2 yet.

Yep, definitely got the latest version installed. I think a Windows file has perhaps got corrupt or is missing, so the only way I'll be able to solve this problem is with a format. Now I have a K750i, I can put the Memory Stick into my Sony VAIO laptop and transfer stuff that way.

I have a K300i (in brazil is hard to have a better one)
And I´m having the same problem. I am accessing my files easily at my home desktop, but at work, where I spend most of my time I have the same not coneected problems.
I tried everything, uninstalling apps. msconfig, reebooting, reinstaling etc.
The funny thing is the the Image application from sony ericsson works fine and I can upcload to the phone the images. But I can't manage themes, sounds, videos, etc since the file manager is not working.
One more thing how can I make my own themes (.thm) and how can I strech a wallpaper image. (In K300i the top and bottom banners are set by the theme and stay there even I change the wallpaper)
Thanx,
Beto
