I've installed the trial of power protect, and it looks quite good. But it takes a little while to encrypt and decrypt files, presumable if i wanted to encrypt a big file, it would take ages ... is there an app that lets me password protect a single folder, rather than protecting individual files?

cheers!

I don't know any and i never saw one...sorry.
But as for speed: consider that encryption takes a fair
amount of processorpower and your phone "only" has 150mHz of
which some percent are always dedicated to background tasks.
So live with it when encrypting large files

I'm using a tool called HideMedia UIQ. Before that I used Powerprotect, but it was too slow.
Locking folders would be very good, but this tool is at least close to that: you can push this nice 'all' button while browsing a folder.
So if I want to hide my folder which contains 40 MB video files (~30 files) it only takes one second (including encryption!) to show or hide them.
