Hi I just got a sony laptop from one of my friend but as soon as i start, it gives d message ' bios locked' i asked my friend bout it. He said dat he had bought it from someplace very cheap but wid no warranty and no aftersales support. Any one havin any idea wot can b done wid it ,except makin a mouse pad out of it dat 2 a very clumsy one. This message was posted from a T610

Well, this is a new one on me!!!

A google search and a search of the vaio support site both came up with nothing, I can only suggest that you (carefully!) take it apart and remove the CMOS battery for a few hours, then replace it and see if it'll boot.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be some kind of Anti-theft feature, although I've never heard of anything like that before. I suppose it's possible that, during normal operation, there could be an app running in the background that checks the Laptops' MAC address with an online database to see if the laptop has been reported stolen and if it has, disable the boot sequence but I'm purely guessing here and most likely wrong!

oooh get sony ifn there mac filtering things!

my advice is the same as cycovision. take it apat and remove the cmos batt and see if that helps your cause. if not well im a bit stuck. on taking it apart front. every laptop ive taken apart is done from the keyboard first and i guess sony wont be any diff unless cycovisions knows somethinf i dont??

Sounds dodgy as hell, no after sale support on laptop!

Did the shop consist of a suit case on a street corner by any chance?
