until 2 years ago when I brought my family to Europe for the duration of this contract I spent several years flying back and forth to Sydney every 6 or 7 weeks for a week. I used to plan all sorts of things to do on the flights but the truth of it was that I rarely did those things. These days there is so much entertainment on board and after the initial champagne before take off and the few bacardi's and wine over a nice meal if I wasn't watching a movie or playing a game on the onboard system I simply stuck my own music on and slept

occassionally I'd get someone next to me who wanted to chat and that usually passed quite a bit of time if they were interesting which, unfortunately, is rarely the case, especially in business class where they just seem to want to brag about this or that

so I'd say just take some good music, enjoy the food and movies, sleep a little and that will see you through

Read a book, though make it an easy read, otherwise you'll just give up, two books I don't recommend for reading on planes (through my own experience) are: The Colour Purple by Alice Walker, not so much reading, but I had to annotate the whole book; and The Lord of the Rings:Unfinished Tales, anyone who's read this book, will realise it's great, but requires a lot of attention.

Music, I brought my iPod last time i went to the states, and it was pretty fun, but I wouldn't advise it for the whole flight, if you haven't got an iPod, then take a CD Player/other MP3 player, and take about three albums.

Two major rules: Don't make plans for the WHOLE flight, because you'll never do them if you're anything like me. Secondly, don't plan one thing, because you'll get bored.
