Hello all, i have been trying to find out if the above phone is coming to any other network soon and how soon. when i ring orange and o2 they seem to have no idea and act like as if im talking a different language and its frustrating. if it isnt then can anyone let me know how good t-mobile is as well as i have never used them before.

Cheers

just get an i-mate JAM (i.e. the unbranded mda compact).

I cannot recommend it enough

cheers man, i have read your reviews and i really want to get the phone now. i was just wondering how that will work then. if i have my current sim card, will it work with these handset? how much am i looking at paying for the i-mate jam handset? i am one of these people who tend to go to the shops to buy them so im new to this field of buying them over the net. t-mobile are offering the mobile on a 30 quid a month contract on a 18 month period for free so that is really tempting, i have three months left on my contract and want to finish it early so i can get one of these cool handsets.

well the JAM is the unbranded sim free version of the o2 and T mobile branded versions and so will take any sim card.

as always, if you don't mind taking a new contract its best to go with the phone companies but then you are also restricted to their firmware updates etc etc. i-mate have so far released 2 firmware updates and 2 patches between those updates and are a good company for keeping the customer happy IMHO. indeed they are just opening new offices in various countries around the world to provide even better support

in UK brand new you can expect to pay around £390 for the JAM but if you go to sites like expansys you can get the JAM on a vodafone or other contract and do what you are trying to do but you actually do get the unbranded phone from what I understand

worth checking out anyway

I think ROM upgrades are released by the networks directly for the branded HTC devices. I believe O2 released theirs for the XDAs as a download from their website.

lol, well massuer not every one in here earns ££,£££ like you do, i am sure he is trying to get it cheaper by getting it with a line.

i am using t-mobile, i have no complaints about them whats so ever i have been with t-mobile since when they were launched, one2one was soo annoying, reception where i live is great, i live in east london, and i get no dropped calls. i am sure you can try them out for 14 days before making your mind up about wanting to stay with them or not.

I never suggested he should pay full price for the JAM

if you go to places like expansys you can buy the jam on contract just like you can the mda compact etc direct from the mobile phone companies

The unbranded name for it is HTC Magician, but the name at retailers is: Qtek S100
Very confusing from HTC (that's also the company that made some ipaqs and other pda's)
so company name is HTC
retailer name: Qtek
O2: XDA
t-mobile: MDA
Vodafone: VPA
Orange: SPV
etc, etc.

the o2 model is named as XDA II mini rather than i-mate as you mention
