I would like to send emails, but not receive them - on my T68. I've been able to configure my phone to dial up via GSM and send/receive, but I'm quite sure that would delete the emails off my POP3 server which I'd like to keep there so I can get them on my PC in Outlook Express.

If I leave the pop3 server, username and password fields blank, I would've thought it would've given up on checking my mailbox, and just gone on to sending afterwards. But unfortunately if the phone can't get a successful connection to a POP3 box to receive email, it won't send emails either (or so it seems)

Any ideas?

I suppose if push comes to shove, I could just create another mailbox, and let the phone check it every time (and it would be empty every time) .. but thats a kind of ugly solution. I'm just hoping there is some way to disable the 'receive' side instead - or better, to 'keep a copy of the messages on the POP3 server' with my normal mail account.

The T68i does NOT delete emails when it downloads from POP, it only creates a "snapshot" of the POP server.

When you delete message from your T68i, you have to do another send and receive to apply those deletions - and even then, it will only delete those messages if they are still on the POP server (you could have logged in via Outlook in-between this and cleared your POP mailbox from the server, in which case the T68i will not be able to delete those emails as they are not there when it grabs another "snapshot").

The T68i email client was designed to be used in conjunction with a proper POP client, it was not designed to download and store your emails on the phone. It doesn't actually download the email from the server to your phone, it just creates a copy (or "snapshot).

Aha. OK I don't think I explained myself very well, but you did a good job of answering my question. I actually have a T68 rather than a T68i, but I think your answer still applies.

I still think it's a pain that I can't delete a message on the phone without deleting the one on the server as well next time I do a send & receive - but I can live with that I suppose..

Cheers

If the T68 doesn't download the message from the server when using POP, then what's the difference between choosing a POP or IMAP server?

I've not used the IMAP client on the T68i - but other IMAP clients allow synchronisation of and navigation into ALL folders in your mailbox, not just the Inbox (as with POP).

I doubt the T68i mail client will allow you access to other IMAP folders (possibly due to memory restrictions), please correct me if I am wrong!
