> K700i unsuccessful SEUS
Bookmark topic
Hi,
I have tried to update my firmware via SEUS using a dss-25. I get the "
operator wont allow this service" message. I have contacted SE and
they said they are having some trouble with the website, but I am not
sure if this is the problem. I have spent much time searching forums
but havn't found anything that sheds any light. The K700i is Optus
branded, but I didn't think that would cause a problem. Does it? I am
running a Telstra sim in it would that cause a problem. I got the phone
second hand and of course they guy said it was unbranded when I
purchaced it.
The FW is RAA003 prgCXC125821_EU1_c
What should I do to upgrade safely.
Is it true that if I get the phone unbranded I still can't use SEUS?
Hope someone can help.
Regards
Baz

Although SE tend to be quite helpful, their responses are often pretty generic. I doubt there are any problems with the SEUS at present. It would seem that you operator disallows the use of the SEUS. Incidentally, the SIM in the phone will not affect it.
Even if you unbrand and change the CDA number (a number that tells the SEUS which firmware to download), it will not make a difference as the way that the SEUS checks whether a phone is allowed to use the service is from its IMEI number.
So, you have two options. Assuming the handset is still under warranty, you can take it to your nearest SE service centre, and they'll update it there, free of charge. Alternatively, you can update the firmware and unbrand using a third-party logger such as DaVinci. The latter will cost you about $8.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Sebby.
Is there a down side to upgrading via DaVinci? (apart from the cost) The phone is branded Optus and I was told there should be no resriction on SEUS, but there obviously is.
The phone should be under warantee but the guy I got it from didn't have the original receipt, so I guess there is not that many options.

If you know other people that have Optus-branded K700s that work with the SEUS, then perhaps there is a problem. More likely, though, is that Optus handsets are disallowed.
You won't necessarily need the receipt. It's worth a try.
DaVinci is a third-party method, so that's really the downside. Effectively, it invalidates your warranty, but in practice, I'm not sure it would be such a problem. If I was you, I'd flash with DaVinci and change the CDA at the same time. That way, you'll have the latest firmware, and if Optus K700s become allowed to use the service (or SE fix it if there is a problem), then you can use that method in future. You can flash and change the CDA for 1 credit. PM a user called
619 - he sells cheap DaVinci credits.

Tried using different sim card, Optus, vodafone or virgin.
This is what I have been told by SE support.
But my case is the phone was purchase from overseas (unbranded) and cannot upgrade from SE website, I end up using davinci.
I've got another one that purchased in Australia but I went to SE service centre to do the upgrade for free since under warranty.

*I was told that about the sim card from SE as well, but was told that the sim makes zilch difference with SEUS.
Anyone know one way or the other?

The SIM card definitely 100% makes no difference.
