A company called Human C&C in Korea has a gadget “cellink” that can transfer battery power from 1 mobile phone to another. When your mobile phone out of battery, you can use this to connect to another mobile phone, it can be then recharged by the other mobile phone. Cellink also has a USB port for charging through USB connection.The product will be available end of this year.

@axxxr - Nice report but a bit confusing pal. If you've transferred some power from one mobile to the other, will that leave the one who emits now - powerless Not ideal I guess! I've seen this portable celfone charger way back in 2000 in ACE Hardware here in Manila, very cheap too, about the size of a AA battery as it runs using it too.

You don't have to fully drain the source battery if you don't want to. I believe this is just an option (for emergencies) to allow you to tranfer enough charge to allow the other phone to operate for a considerable time.

The USB charging option is very useful IMO.

One possibility would be when you run out of batteries and you need to contact somebody and you don't have your charger with you but this other guy with a fully charged phone doesn't want you to use up his airtime. So, instead of removing your SIM (which might not work with his phone/operator), you just ask him to spare some battery charge.

@blackspot - Yup, that's the latest style of doing it mate, but the common one is by simply, bringing a spare one or thru car charging or by buying a portable celfone charger which runs on (2) AA batteries!

Last year in NZ a teenager created a wind-up (clockwork) cellphone charger for a science competition. Vodafone NZ said they were interested in evaluating it for production. Heard nothing since.

Vodafone here sells a portable charger that works on solar energy. That's a nice option. It even charges when it is clouded or artificial light (takes much longer charging though)
