NO java programs will work through gprs.. only the built in internet browser will work.. i have changed it to the right gprs setting in the java internet setting but still no go!? any ideas?

Yup you need full web over gprs and not wap over gprs. Do you have it? If yes, come back and i will give the next step.

It all depends on what your operator lets you do. I have Orange World on mine, it should be only internet via WAP but Java programs that access internet work fine (Hafas train schedules, CNN news applet) though I can't get through to a pop server for instance.
