i got this messeg from sonyericsson update site.
Your device is not supported
CDA162005/1 is not supported or you have entered an incorrect number.
If the number is correct, it means that your operator does not approve usage of the service for this device. If the number is incorrect, click Previous and enter the right number.

Not everyone can use the upgrade service. If you bought your phone discounted from somone like orange then they generally dont allow upgrades.
People like Orange like to make sure only firmware they have tested and approved is used on their network. thats why you have to enter that number 162005.... to show who makes your phone. Mine is Sim free so can have any update I like.
You tend to find the updates available to Orange and other networks are a few versions behind the official latest release. It also contains network customizations like themes and stuff.

in that case couldnt we just put a diffrent number? the same model/type but with the "sim free" CDA number would that work?
also the Sim Free phones are mainly avalible from

so they a providing upgrades for THEIR customers, its up to the networks to provide firmware upgrades for the phones they issue

A few versions?! That's a joke, there hasn't been an update for my O2 P900 since the stone age!
