I`ve a dilemma and I`m a bit curious about what you good people think.

When you get in your twenties the society expect you to move out from your parents and get a place of your own.
In you get on the "wrong" side of 30 you should be married, have kids, a house, dog and a Volvo.

I dont want to go that way.

I`m on the "wrong" side of 30. Not married. (not even a girlfriend at the moment). No kids. No house. (Rented apartment). No Volvo. (Dont have a car at the moment.

To buy a house or apartment in Norway is expensive. It`s expensive enough when you`re two. And very expensive if you`re alone. The house itself is expensive. Ok, so far, not so bad. But then you got propery tax, water and sewer tax. In my opinion, if you own a house you should take care of it.

My point is; to own a house costs time and money. More time and money than I want to spend.

I can afford a house, but with monthly costs of about 1700 Euro just for the house you dont need to be a Mensa member to understand that buying cool stuff is history.

I want a car soon. I`m thinking of buying a boat next year. I love gadgets. I want to travel. A motorbike could be fun. And I really want a P800. I dont want to think twice about every penny I use.
Mmmm... I sound a bit spoiled there; I want, I want.

If i buy a house I can kiss most of that goodbye for the nearest 10 years.

My parents gave me an offer. They got a house, and asked if I want to move in the basement apartment. It`s a "big" apartment, about 85 m2, and with some paint and little work it could be a trendy penthouse apartment. (Well, not completely since it`s a basement). Pay them close to marked rent and begin to pay on the house. (When they are historiy I gonna take over the house, just have to pay out my sister and brother).

The dilemma is: Shal I grow up and buy a house now?
Or move in to my parents house and be able to have fun?

Why don't you just buy or rent a flat? It's not that expensive as a house, so you can continue with your gadgets. This post was posted from a T68i

I could do that.

But decent apartments are also expensive. (Like everything else in Norway...)
In most apartmentcomplex you have to pay "rent" as well. To pay for a caretaker and stuff. Not much cheper than a house.

My advice is get drunk, ride bikes, buy gadgets, have fun.
You can spend all of the time in the world planning what you will do in the future and then you could get killed crossing the street.

The future will always happen. You just may not be a part of it.

Move into your parents place and get on with having fun. I bought a house 6 years ago (36 yesterday). It's an investment I suppose and it hasn't stopped me having fun but if I should die tomorrow I can't take it with me.

You know it makes sense!

There are no short cuts in life.
Only in movies can a person can have a rags to riches story in two hours.
And even though every parent would love their kids to take over the family property, I think they would be far more proud when they see you standing on your own feet rather than waiting to try and live off them.

My advice:
Go work hard - not just to afford a new house but also the gadgets that you so badly want. Be honest in what you do. And Im sure things will work out.

@gazobee, very well said! And i'd like to add this: you dont have to live up to the expectations of others - it aint your problem, and they got no business telling you their opinions of how to live your life- unless you are immature or irresponsible. This post was posted from a T39

Gazobee & GOwin,

I suggest both of you look on either side of the road before crossing it
