> K700 firmware update
Bookmark topic
Hi all!
I believe I've read all the posts concerning firmware update, but I am still somewhat lost regarding this particular problem I have.
I have a K700 (R2AA003, CDA102298/33 R6A cxc125822 R2A003 HONG_KONG).
The thing is, ever since I erased a Java game I had downloaded, my phone won't finish initialisation when a SIM-card is in it. No SIM is fine, I can get to the service menu and run all the tests and all seems ok. But when a SIM card is inserted (
any SIM-card), the phone keeps flashing the screen and keypad.
I live in Brazil now, and the local service centers just aren't "experienced enough" with the Kxxx yet, and so they are not taking any phones in.
So I talk to a friend of mine, who tells me to buy a DSS-20, download DaVinci and use the "Recalculate Security Data (Repair/Unlock)" feature. He said it should work "after all, it does say 'Repair' there, doesn't it?"
I believe I have done everything right (selected the checkbox, clicked the Do Job button, got no error msgs), but it still won't work.
I browsed through the downloadable flash files in Davinci, and I see this "k700 recovery - free dead phones repair" - is that what I'm looking for? When I select it, the Main textbox shows k700_recovery_R2A041.bin - but R2A041 is an old firmware version isn't it?
I really want to get it right this time, since I've already wasted 1 credit in that "repair" thing, and now I've only got 1 credit left, and I wouldn't like to buy more, cause everytime I use the credit card internatinally I have these VISA fees to pay...
BTW, if I could not only get the phone working again, but also update to a more recent firmware, preferably supporting Brazilian Portuguese (I think the available files support only Portugal Portguese, slightly different), that would be great! If I can do that spending only 1 credit, even better
So, can anyone please tell me the order in which I should do things, i.e. which files to flash first, and when to perform finalization?
Thanks a lot !
Markus

Why not just use the Free Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS)? Unless it does not support your phone.........

Yeah, sorry, forgot to mention that. SEUS didn`t work either. I tried a couple of times, without the SIM card in, and it says I haven't got enough free memory on the phone to perform the update. And since the phone doesn't start up, I can't get to the menus and erase some files. I can't get to the file system using SE File Manager and the DSS either, it always timeouts trying to get the data.
Then I tried SEUS with the SIM card inserted, and it said my operator/carrier didn't authorize online uipdates, or something like that.
That's when I began using DaVinci.
Cheers

Okay, I would forget about the recovery thing. You can kill two birds with one stone here. A full flash will sort your problem as well as giving you the latest firmware.
I would recommend you flash R2AE, even though you'll find R2AT and R2AY on DaVinci. R2AE appears to be the latest official release, and there are some things missing from the other 2 (e.g. 'Time and Cost' menu).
Ensure you've got the latest DaVinci client (13.2). Open the client, and click the
Get Files From Web box. Then click
Update File List to ensure you have the latest file list. Scroll down and click on
k700 R2AE HONGKONG: EN ZC, tick
Download Main Firmware and
Download File System Flash and click the
Get Files button. Once downloaded, close the 'Get Files From Web' box. You should notice that the 'Main' and 'FS' fields have been filled in, but are not enabled. Click the tick box next to each of them, and then tick
Finalization. Finally, ensure you've selected the right port to flash, then just click the
Flash button.
I notice you live in Brazil but have the Hong Kong firmware, so I'm not sure if you perhaps bought the phone off of eBay or something. If so and you'd prefer to flash a different firmware, the procedure is the same. Just select the relevant firmware instead.
If you need any further help, you can contact me on ICQ or just reply to this post and I'll do my best.

Great, Sebby, thanks!
I'm waiting for the Davinci guys to answer me regarding which fw version contains Brazilian Portuguese... From what I get, only Portugal shows up in that list. Although I'm not sure SE has 2 different versions for Brazil and Portugal...
What about CDA, is it worth changing it? SEUS won't work anyway, right, I've seen posts where people say it checks the IMEI to authorize updates. When I flash one of those files available on the "Get files from web", will it automatically change to the proper CDA too?
Thanks

You are correct about this Markus. If it won't work for you now, changing the CDA won't help. However, if you're flashing, you may as well change the CDA at the same time as it can be done using the same credit used for the flash, so if in the future that phone is allowed to use the SEUS, you'll be able to update.
I see you've added me on ICQ so I can run you through this.

Worked like a charm! After a full reflash, my phone was good as new!
Even better, actually! Lots of nice improvements in R2AY when compared with R2AA (most of which were already on R2AE, so I hear).
What's more, I've finally got T9 in Portuguese

For all brazilians out there, the pack that contains Brazilian Portuguese is US2.
Thanks to Sebby and Maxim @ Davinci for all the help!
Cheers
