> Formatting drive C: ?
Bookmark topic
Hi!
I'd like to know if formatting the c-drive via the servicemenu will
not really FORMAT all data and leave it like this, but sets
the phone back to a complete factory-setting?
Anyone tested this? I'd like to really clean up my messy phone and start over but i must admit i don't have the balls to do the above mentioned format ,-)
Thanks in advance.

Formatting erases everything.
Master Reset does not

...and master-reset leaves most of the drive as it was before
But what use is the servicemenu-format of then? What should
i do with the phone with no OS or default-apps installed?

Formatting does not remove the OS, that's held on an EPROM chip but it will remove any installed apps.
Formatting is more useful for wiping clean ms duo cards.

You don't have a C: drive to format on a phone

yes you do.
Format to put the device back to almost fresh from box status. to really get that you need to format, then do a firmware upgrade as you then get all the apps and data.
Factory reset just removes settings but leaves most of the installed stuff as is.

The OS and preinstalled apps are contained within the A:\ and Z:\ ROM drives. These cannot be edited or deleted in any way except by a firmware upgrade which rewrites the ROMs.
Master Reset removes all user settings but doesn't get rid of
cr@p from C:\
Formatting the C:\ (which btw, they DO have

) removes all the stuff and returns it to like new with only the preinstalled apps etc.
Hope that clears up any confusion

I guess you guys now have me confused on what happens when you perform a Master Reset. I performed a Master Reset on my P910a, and it put my phone back to it's out of the box settings. There were no third party applications remaining, no third party themes, the time was erased, all messages erased, and contacts removed. So are you guys saying a Master Reset doesn't remove contact info, messages, and third party applications?
