I have been using smartmovie without problems for months now but all of a sudden the preview won't work.

I have tried different files and none of the preview but the sound is there. However if I load a converted file then I get preview and sound.

Coupled with this problem, I think, is that I am unable to convert, either. The message I get is

Convert Error:Cannot start Conversion. Detailed Error Mesage:unspecifed error.

Can anyone assist?

Download and install FFDShow. Be sure tick the boxes of the video codec you are trying to convert (if in doubt click them all) and then retry Smartmovie.

Tried that and hasn't made any difference. After loading the file and pressing play you get a grey screen for a split second but then blank only the sound. I have also uninstalled/reinstalled/restarted PC but to no avail.

I need this to work again so I can enjoy my P910i.

Hmmm, that usually works 90% of the time. Ok, is your Smartmovie unlocked and registered? Have you tried lots of different types of video files like xvid and mpeg?

If so, try downloading and installing the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and install just about everything in it. Make sure it installs completly dont 'ignore' anything that doesnt install/overwrite. The try again.

If that doesnt work, download and use VirtualDub to first check the video loads ok in that, if so convert a small section uncompressed and retry that in SmartMovie.

Thanks syntax for getting back.

Yes its registered and yes I have tried lots of files but with no success. I can only view previously converted files. This is so strange.

I will try installing the codec and the virtualDub. I'm not sure what to do with the VirtualDub???
