well as many know soon (2007+) it will be a MUST to switch over from crappy anologue to HD:TV which means buy new TVs or or a HDTV convertor (summut like freeview)

Advantages
=======

Super Clear quality TV including terestrial (this is bigger than the switch from VHS videos to DVD players)
Means BIGGER TV screens
No satalite dish

Disadvantages
=======

As we all know things dont reduce in price untill everyone has one, bassically they are expensive.

More Couch patatoes in UK meaning fatter and obese will become the norm. (OMG)

BTW there are NO stations in the UK transmiting HDTV the BBC once thought about it last year then it was probably fased out by the board!

but soon stations will have to do it
---------------------------------------------------------------

Overall changing to HDTV is not something that we NEED but it is something that is a worthy switch

OH and the on that note, i want one so i can play my future XBOX 360 in full quality

wanna know what u lot think

Imagine 720 or 1080 lines of resolution compared to the 525 lines people are used to in the United States or the 625 lines in Europe -- it's a huge difference!

sorry thats the quality the resolution of the TV can vary the highest ive seen is 1366x768 pixels

i think you maybe slightly wrong. by 2010 all tv must be digital thats not the same as hdtv. sky are launching hdtv in 2006/7. but it will be many years before this is standard
hdtv works as you say at 720 which will be progressive scan or 1080 which will be deinterlaced
your right itv will go from looking like vhs to dvd also dd or dts 5.1 should be standard sound on hdtv.
at the momment in the uk there are no tv that support hdtv (probably never will be) and only a selection of plasma and lcds but these are growing by the day

i thought the main advantage of HDTV was so that you could use it as your pc monitor aswell

not necessarily...there are different types of hd monitors..some can be used as pc monitors...some for e.g rear projection monitors which are hd ready cant...HD is already quite popular in the US and networks offer a wide variety of content...

HD is nothing but an enhanced digital format which gives superlative picture quality and AC3 sound ...and yes..while hardware tends to be expensive..its most certainly a worthy switch

thats the problem UK is so behind!! if the BBC wud have gone to HDTV when they thought about it then many ther broadcasters wud ave followed like sheeps!

but i might just get one that is really cheap maybe a small one so i can play x360 in its full potential.

it wasnt the bbc it was the goverment they had a chose a few years back and chose quantity over quality we could have been hdtv by now but they wanted more channels for some unknown reason so we end up with a load of +1 channels instead of high quality out put.
