I use godaddy.com, most domains are around $10, you can pay with paypal or most major credit and debit cards and you can pay for multiple years up front if you want to. They're one of the most well known, alot of other domain siites use their reseller accounts, I have about 10 domains with them and I've never had a problem.

I use www.ukreg.com

Cheap, lots of web and email forwarding options and if you don't want the domain after the minimum registration period (different for .co.uk and .com domains) you just don't pay again.

Well, that's because AFAIK no company lets you register a domain for more than 10 years at a time... that's the maximum currently allowed I think.

I guess they do that to stop people holding onto domains long after they've stopped using them.

You cannot just buy a domain outright, you need to renew it yearly (2 years for .uk domains afaik), or in the case of a multiple year ownership (upto 10 years) pay in advance and the company will renew it for you for how ever long you pay.

Btw renewing the domain is the best thing you can do, imagine that you got wrong and decide to close it after 2 years ... you can allways sell it back but all depends if it's attractive and worth it.

Forget the long term domain registration, look more for a 2/3 year contract.
