The Taiwanese company Xcute, which has recently released its Xcute DV1 phone with a 3-megapixel camera, now is preparing the release of Xcute DV2 equipped with a 6-megapixel camera. The new model has similar construction like the DV1 – a clamshell with the rotating display (270 degrees) and an internal antenna, however it is a little bit smaller and lighter. There are two displays, the internal one has 16.7M colors.

The camera of the phone supports video shooting, there is a flash, however zoom is only digital. The DV2 features functions of a voice recorder, a media player, equalizer and loud communication. There is a TV-out. Like its predecessor the DV2 will be initially introduced at the Asian market, approximately in autumn 2005, the price isn’t yet disclosed. The device will probably come out in Europe, however taking into account that the DV1 hasn’t yet appeared in Europe, the dates for the DV2 are vague.

The specs of Xcute DV2:

Supported standards- GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz, GPRS Class 10
External screen – 1” OLED, 96x64 pixels, 65K colors
Internal screen – 2” TFT, 240x240 pixels, 16.7Μ colors
20 MB of internal memory
Expansion slot for MiniSD cards
USB interface
Supported formats - MP3, AVI, ASF and MOV
WAP, Java, EMS and MMS
Talk time – up to 4 hours
Standby time – up to 150 hours
Dimensions – 87x46.6x22 mm
Weight - 99 g

Another high-megapixel cameraphone by Xcute...first saw the very similarly-styled 3mp Xcute DV1 advertised on expansys's site, apparently due soon:
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=121256
and the lurid orange one on request.

Now, let's hope this new one has got Bluetooth...

I'm just waiting for the day when one will release a phone with a digital SLR camera...

This Mpix race is getting a bit ridiculous if you ask me

I personally consider 5Mpix an absolute max for digital photography (excluding professional photography) as it allows for very good quality prints (of quite good size as well). Anything beyond that is getting insane. Soon we'll need a mere 1GB to store a single picture

Or what if professional level CCD's were incorperated into camphones?
