You're right, GPRS does consume more battery on a T68i then when it's not used.
Keeping a browsing session on while using GPRS means that power has to be used to sustain a GPRS session in 'active' mode (ready to send and receive data immediately).
If you close down the WAP browser the session is no longer 'active' and less power is consumed. It doesn't matter if you remain 'connected' to the network (on GPRS) after you close the WAP browser, this doesn't mean you are 'active' (you are in effect on 'standby' until you start the WAP browser up again etc. - just like when your phone is ON but you are not actively on a voice call).

Yes, but the distance from your phone to your network operator's base station (check signal strength) would have more of a bearing on power consumption.
