I have a Belkin. The 10-meter range one. Works fine with FMA. As far as I know they all work about the same.

If you have Windowd XP with service pack 2, leave the cd that comes with the stick alone and use the built-in Windows support.

A lot depends on the power of your pc. A faster pc will provide a more stable connection especially for file transfer as the process is not interrupted that much.

People were saying they were having problem with XP SP2 native driver, because the native driver has very few profiles available. i.e. you can't use your BT headset with your PC, etc.

All BT adapters are essentially identical, using the same chipset. Some have better software than others. But if you are geekish, you can use the latest software from a different dongle, which means you can buy the cheapest dongle and get it to work just like the most expensive brand name.

i use D-Link. it's pretty reliable and not too expensive.

there are numerous threads on this topic so if you you are bound to find a large number and variety of opinions, and hopefully an answer that suits you.

I have a 10m DSE branded Bluetooth Dongle bought here in NZ at Dick Smith Electronics for NZ$57 (GBP22.29), the cheapest I could find.
Belkin Dongles sell for NZ$99.

I have a 2K5 Compaq Laptop with Windows XP Home and when I installed the DSE software I got a Windows message saying it didnt like the software and if I proceeded I risked O/S damage. I ignored this and carried on (no damage has occured) and then got a message from the DSE software saying that some operations weren't successful. I've tried reinstalling a couple of times and the same thing occurs.

When I want to transfer files between Laptop and K700i, I have to switch on the B/T function for each file. The laptop cannot extract files from the K700i nor can it stay permanently connected. I have tried the XP menu's to switch on the B/T but it refuses to respond.

Anyone had this issue before? Is it an XP problem or a DSE problem?

@carkitter
I believe you have a firewall and when you install the BT software, it's being blocked by it. Try disabling the firewall before installing your BT software.

BTW, I have a Mitsumi(made in Japan) and a Zonet(no name made in China), they both perform quite well once I've installed Widcomm 4.0.* for them. The Zonet has a much longer range, despite both being rated for 10m.
