there is also the 64-bit edition optimized for the new set of 64-bit processors and applications. Media Center is alright, but not that impressive to me.

If all you care about is the internet and built-in games you are gonna see very little difference between Pro and Home. If you know what you are doing and know how to use the group policy manager, and other expanded features of Pro, then its worth it. Otherwise stick with Home.
