Hey good people of Esato.

I am looking to get my greasy mitts on one of these babies ASAP - and from what I have seen, they're due for release in about a week.

Anybody know of anywhere they might be available now?

And also, given that this looks to me like the Holy Grail of Sat Nav, anybody got any thoughts as to why I shouldn't buy it?

TIA,

Dave

Dunno about the 700. I bought a TomTom Go (or is it now called the Classic?) in the geginning of the year and are quite happy with my model. It does not have the bluetooth and all the other new bells and wistles, but it does what it's supposed to do.

You cannot go wrong with TomTom but I ecpect that the 700 will be quite pricey. I would rather recommend that you go for the 500 as the specs are similar apart from the 700 that uses an internal hdd where the 500 uses SD cards.

What happens whern the hdd gets buggered? the repair/replacement costs would be a lot, as where with SD cards, you copy the data on your pc as a backup and there you go.

Obviously the hdd on the 700 can also be backed up, but my "argument" is more in the lines of hardware failure as I dont know how secure the drive is mounted inside the device, and face it there is a lot of vibrations on your dash when driving....

Just my point of view.

Ive never used the Tom Tom though...

Is it touchscreen?

I have some navigation units.

Or is it Tom Tom you want specifically?

i dropped my navman, the HDD got screwed and they replaced the unit in in 7 days no questions asked!

They gave me a case and a car charger too.

Ive also got a magellan 300.

Thanks for your responses guys....I probably should have mentioned that I have TomTom GO (Classic, if that's what it's now called) already and am looking to get a new one, as I never received a product code (necessary for upgrades) with my unit, and would also like the extra functionality the 700 offers. I take on board the point about the HDD, but I think that generally, more and more devices will head this way, as the demands for storage become too much for flash methods like SD, and the flaws should be ironed out - I've certainly never had so much as a flicker of a fault from my current unit.

It is specifically TomTom that I'm after, as my experience has been that it is the best there is.

Well....looks like I'm waiting for Maplin....come on TomTom!
