Ok...I'm at wits end. My used ebay phone from Canada has Fido MMS settings grayed out. I've been told many different things. From SE that I need to flash it and reinstall firmware which they won't do for me other than reinstall the Fido stuff. Also from SE that it's impossible to remove that data lock. From Fido, they won't help me because I'm not a fido customer. From Cingular, we don't know what's going on with that call SE. So....what can I do to get rid of the lock on my MMS screen so I can sent MMS? Please help.

Hi,

Although in the United Kingdom, I have had exactly the same problem.

I was on the o2 network, and upgraded with my service provider to get a new phone. Unfortunately, the service provider had recently been taken over by Vodafone, who happen to operate another network in the UK to rival o2.

I wanted to stay on the o2 network but with Vodafone as my service provider. They accepted this and sent me a new phone.

I have same problems, the Vodafone MMS Setting are pre-programmed into the phone, and a SONY upgrade did NOT cure it. They told me that "Times are moving on" and nowadays they only supply pre-branded phone with the internal programming based around their own network, e.g: Vodafone.

I have now had to switch to Vodaphone as my network provider to be able to use MMS because they cannot supply me with a "Neutral" phone. A bit naughty if you ask me !!! (but I moaned and got a good package deal from them).

I have spent hours on this problem and I hope you have more luck than me.

Cheers,
Andy.

Just a note for people wanting a new phone... Phones for you supply unbranded phones... well all the ones I have purchased from them have been. Things may have changed though since the Voafone takeover.

this makes me really glad i'm with one-connect austria. the phones they provide are simlocked, but not branded.
well, my p900 had a custom navigation thingie installed, but i could remove that easily.
all my settings are pre-installed, but are editable. and when i screwed them up, i sent an sms to my provider and they sent me a configuration sms back.

maybe that's what you need to do. request new settings via sms.
not sure this helps you, but i wish you good luck.
