Are CDs dead? Slowly people will go for Blu-ray or HD-DVD just like they went for DVD. First we have so out live the format war. Blu-ray or whatever format wins wil slowly take over from DVD but it will take a while, espesially in developing countries that don't have HD TV.

yer ive seen that, but yer eventually we will be wondering why we ever used dvd's!

but imagine if this ever happened

Quote:Just when you thought that 25GB was a fairly decent size for an optical disc, it transpires that Pioneer is working on a technology that makes Blu-Ray's capacity seem rather underwhelming. According to a report in the Nikkei Business Daily, Pioneer is developing a new optical technique using ultraviolet lasers rather than rotten old blue ones and that should give us optical discs with a 500GB capacity.

The shorter wavelength ultraviolet beam can create data holes 70 nanometres apart and results in a data rate 20 times higher than Blu-Ray. Pioneer has yet to officially announce its new technology so there's no word on how long it'll be before you can actually buy one. But seeing as the capacity of a single disc is bigger than most of our hard drives, we're happy enough to wait a while for it.

I'm pretty sure that something will take DVD's place. But it doesn't have to be Blue Ray, but that's the most likely...
