I have installed the 360 day trial version in my pc. Having lots of problems with it. Does it really make any difference? Tried installing directx9 and it says it does not support the "current version of windows". And a host of other problems too. Can't install an bluetooth dongle either and there's no sound from the speaker. Help anyone?

Driver support is still pretty bad for Win64, the only solution is to go to the manufacturers' sites for your various bits of hardware and see if they have a 64 bit version of the driver. 32 bit drivers won't work with it in most cases.

Software support is a bit dodgy too, M$ have a list of apps and components that won't work with win64 on their site.

Hmmm..thanks for the reply! So its not worth "upgrading" to a 64bit os anytime soon? And is there a full version of xp-64 on sale yet? As i see, many issues need to be addressed before they do it!

The full version is out already as far as I know. In the best tradition of M$, and just like with the first release of XP, it's out before it's really ready

The big problem at the moment is that there is very little software available that is written to take advantage of the 64 bit OS. 32 bit apps don't run any faster on Win64, in fact some of them are actually a little bit slower than on the normal 32 bit XP because Win64 has to use emulation to run certain 32 bit apps.

So my advice would be that if you've got a 64 bit system and you're ok at getting and installing drivers (and checked that you can get them for your hardware beforehand), then by all means upgrade to win 64. At least then you'll be ready for the new 64 bit software when it finally starts to come out.

Personally, I'm going to wait for the first service pack to come out and for the hardware manufacturers to catch up on the driver front.

I think if anybody wants to really use 64bit,wait for longhorn . Or use win03 server. I think we'll see the real benefits of 64bit only in longhorn than xp64. This message was posted from a T610
