Have discovered that it is a virtual serial port and is now up and running.

i used FMA to sync with Outlook using the same method, but i prefer the Sync Station. does the phone monitor icon appears in the task bar? when communicating with the phone, it should flash with a yellow check mark and then green when connected. you must enable the ports to make this work. go to control panel->phone monitor to enable ports.

Yes the bluetooth is connecting fine but when i sync with sync station it gets as far as analysing and the a runtime error comes up.Has been doing this for 2 weeks now.Maybe it is looking in the wrong folders but FMA seems to find them OK.Can FMA sync the calendar ?

fma support for advanced functions with phones after the t610 seems limited. Contacts sync with K700i works, but fma phone book import/export functions are too limited for my liking. In fma no organiser function will sync other than bookmarks, and it is not possible to browser or change the phones profiles.
I now only use FMA to backup messages and sync bookmarks.
As much as I hate mobile phone monitor, I use it, phone explorer and sony ericsson sync station when the using native xp bluetooth. Otherwise I use the Bluetooth adapter software; it usually has most functions like file exploring, synchro, etc.

Thanks for that,I have read on here how FMA does "everything" that you could ever want but i have to say it actually does very little. Will keep trying to get Outlook and phone to "talk" with sync station,Any advice would be much appreciated.

With fma and a k700 you can sync phone contacts, both from SIM and memory, sync the calendar and the three of them can be synced with Outlook. The contacts and the sms's can be exported to csv, xml and html. What more could you want?
Don't forget that fma is free and that with every new generation (t610/630, k700, k750, ...) apparently a lot has to be rewritten almost completely.
Therefore in my opinion it deserves more credit.
