You need the SE J2ME wireless toolkit or Sun's Wireless toolkit for developing,compiling and running java apps on the PC.

what is your level of experience in Java ?

SE provides a pretty excellent free dev kit, look here:
http://developer.sonyericsson[....]obal/docstools/java/p_java.jsp

the dev kit needs a jdk from sun, and of course decent knowledge of java.

penultimately, if you use eclipse, there's eclipseME which is a pretty solid piece of work as well -- here:
http://eclipseme.org/index.html

lastly, SE provides a dev forum in which these types of questions are better suited:

If you have a phone that supports java 2.0 try to download the Web Viewer by reqwireless . See if you can go to a web address like cnn.com it works on my nokia 6230 but when i tried it on the nokia 6230i i get the message http error. I hope someone that could open the web viewer on the 6230i can pm me and tell me how he did it. Anyway go to wap.Reqwireless.com and try to download a few apps and see if they work for you. Good luck This message was posted from a Nokia

@naith - For some free j2me e-books, follow this link - http://www.gayanb.com/free_j2me_books.php

j2me programming can be a pain in the ass in the beginning when compared to java but it's nice to watch your apps run successfully in the phone when finished
