I cant get an update for p800(phone is orange branded). but what will happen if I put in a dummy cda number which the SE service accepts- phone aint gonna blow up is it?

Not blow up, but flashing with unsuitable firmware could cause all sorts of problems, most likely the phone wouldn't start up at all.
I don't think putting in a false cda would allow you to flash it anyway.

Thanks for that- I am a cautious guy- and left it till I didnt "need" the p800-have the 910 now so thought it may have been worth the try- but I will err on the side of caution again and abide by your wisdom-thanks again

Yup it will find out.
Many guys have tried putting a p900 to a p910 update service to make it a p905, but it wont allow..

Even if you could fool SEUS into thinking the phone was a P900 when it is actually a P800, it wouldnt work. The P800 has got a smaller firmware memory than the P900 so the firmware just wouldnt fit so you would end up with a phone with only half the files needed for it to work.
