Dear All,
I'm not sure if this is a right place to post this question. But this is the only forum I visit.
I'm planing to go to Italy, France and England for 2 weeks. I'm wondering if there is any "Non Contract" or "Pay as you go" type service available in those 3 countries? Do I have to buy one Sim card in each country or I can just buy one and it works for all 3 countries?
What is the price over there (voice and data)? And what is the cost of roaming (if applicable)?
I'm from North America, thus I'm not very familiar with how the system works there.
Thank you very much for your reply.

BTW mate, welcome to Europe
I`m afraid I can`t help you with prices, but I`m sure someone else could provide you with the information you are requesting....

Post those questions to your operator.
Pay as you go is generally called Roaming.
I'm not aware of an operator that has a card that simultaneously belongs to several countries (but maybe vodafone?)

Who is your current carrier? You might actually want to compare their Intl roaming rates to that of pay-as-u-go rates from various Euro providers. It also depends on your intended usage of the handset. If you plan on using data then pre-paid packages may run you a bit.
I would suggest Vodafone in the case you want to grab data. For voice, definately grab a pre-paid card which may start @ 5 Euros. Keep in mind that all incoming voice calls will be free so the savings are phenomenal with respect to what you're getting with a pre-paid or subbed sim in N. America.
If money is not an objective and you are subbed with T-Mo then that's your ticket. I use one single T-Mo sim to access data throughout Europe and the states. It simply grabs a tower and connects. It comes in handy when searching bus and train schedules online when in Italy and France. Although it's costly I find it more reliable then using Vodafone Live or any of my other sims. Voda is a close second because I also use it when I'm in Japan. Again, if voice is your only concern then just grab a cheap pre-paid sim from which ever country you land in. shouldn't run you more then $50 total for all those sims including talk time. This will help you save if you plan on calling local areas within the country. However, if you simply want to communicate with plp back home just grab one sim and give them the number. You'll have infinite talk time if they call u plus they can get good discounts on Intl calling cards.

Hi BigFeat, Thank you for your useful advice. Currently i'm with Rogers Wireless in Canada. Their Internation Roaming is very expensive. I haven't checked with them for the European Roaming. BUt I know for sure the US Roaming costs US$1 per minutes.
I won't be using data very often. I guess I will mainly use voice calling only.
To sum up, if for voice only, i will grab a prepaid sim. Can i get it anywhere?
Once again, BigFeat, thanx alot for your information.

There is not one sim that is for use in all three countries. The networks in the appropriate contry will let you roam to another country but the costs will be comparable with your roaming cost from canada to the u.s. The cheapest call charges will come from buying a different sim for each country.

Whan your in England I'd get a Virgin Mobile Pay as you go simcard. They only cost about £10 and you get £5 credit on it anyway.
Will you be calling home whilst you're in europe, or will you be making only "local" calls?

@chazam, I will be making "local" calls most of the time. so that should be fine with me. And btw, how long does 5 credit last?
