Hi,
whenever I install something and uninstall it it feels as if half the memory isn't set free again. I checked the Memory Stick (that's where I installed the files) and the folders seem to be gone - the files, too. But even though I keep uninstalling, the space gets less and less. The included "Storage Wizard" is just useless.
Is there a way how I can get my free space back without having to format the card and reinstalling everything?
I did a quick search on the forum, and didnt find an answer.
Thanx
Chris

Are you just checking folders you can see in file manager, or are you using something that can see all the folders (like Sman)?

to qwerty : I use FileMan - it shows the system folders, too.
However aside from the files in the apps folder, it is hard to tell what is needed and what isn't
to chemos : will do as soon as I get home. thx in advance (I hope it works)

the problem lies in the same respect as a computers hard drive, its all the same principal.
when u delete files they seem to leave fragments behind or ghost files. the same happend on my 128meg duo 23 meg was missing lost in space lol
but anyway your duo needs de-fragmenting. you prob could do this by using the mem stick adaptor then plugging it into a usb adaptor then de-frag it on your pc, otherwise you will need to re format the card unfortunatly.

ps disk cleaner only really gets rid of junk files usually folders from deleted apps, these usually contain minimal amount of data anyway!
btw dont buy disk cleaner use it to search for junk files note down wot they are and use a decent file manager that lets u view system apps to delete them!

PLEASE PEOPLE stop suggesting others "defragment" their memory stick.
It does NOTHING to improve performace, the memory stick does not have a moving head. Access any bit of memory takes the same amount of time.
The only thing you will do is use up a lot of read and writes. Remember, there's only a limited number of these available before the memory stick will stop working (or at least start to fail)
I am amazed at how many times I've seen this suggested on this forum as a solution to make things work faster. It won't. In fact, searching the Internet just now, I'm amazed at how many people the world over suggest it.
If you don't believe me, read what Sony say on the matter:
