I know there a lot of threads about this but can anyone explain to me simply what Firmware is and what benefits it has to me?

Firmware is the software your phone runs. Its a little like Windows for your pc.
Every so often new firmware is released, a little like Windows Update. You apply the new software and it updates your phone and removes bugs.
Firmware updates can:
- fix bugs
- improve camera quality
- improve menu speed
- make games run faster
- make images display quicker
- improve sound volume and quality
- and more..

But lets not forget that firmware can also make certain features like camera quality worse also and not just better, that is why some firmwares are more popular than others because they all have special extras that are better than other versions of firmware.

Dont confuse waldo by making it sound like if he updates his phone he'll kill it.
@ waldo: you can get the updates from the SE website, listed under each phones support page.

But yes most firmwares are there to improve the phone as a whole so they are worthwhile, and as etaab mentioned they are available on the SE website. The instructions are nice and simple to follow online as well - taking from experience on this one. So scared the first time i updated my K750i from the original firmware but am so glad i did it.
