Anybody on Orange OVP Virgin equivalent? I signed up to this years ago on a Nokia 3330. I get billed only for what I use each month. Now I've got a K750i (brand new without sim on eBay) and get the same service. Because it's Virgin equivalent, I have to use GSM, not GPRS. I've enabled MMS which works fine, but cannot connect to WAP despite speaking to both Orange and Sony Ericsson helplines and treble checking all settings.

Anyone got a similar problem, or can help? The irritating thing is that I get charged for the time it is trying to connect even though it fails all the time!

Yes, the dial up. Orange said I had to use that and couldn't use GPRS. Seems they weren't being completely honest with me.....I'll have a go with a GPRS bundle and see how it goes. Which settings do you use, the standard Orange GPRS ones? Thanks for your reply.

I've used Virgin OVP for four years but with very low usage. Orange at first said I wasn't eligible for the free month trial of GPRS, but finally agreed when I quoted a precedent. Seems you have to insist...

After the trial (July 2005) I signed up for the Orange World 4 bundle. I'm using it for occasional GPRS emailing from a laptop via Bluetooth to a new old-model R520 from Expansys. I use Outlook on the laptop as if it were at home on the WiFi to my normal email account with BTYahoo.
Results are mixed. I can connect and stay connected almost always, but half the time email collection and/or send spends up to several minutes trying but fails to complete. Sometimes I found the same mast would work one day and not the next. I've tried it in France, Belgium, Netherlands, and Ireland as well as UK. Same results. Meanwhile it clocks up data charges even when send and receive fail. (Outside UK it's very pricy at £8 or 10 per MB).

The same thing happens when I've tried to connect to websites like Google. Occasionally it works fine, but equally often Netmeter shows plenty of data activity but I end up with no website.

I need to know whether this is normal, or whether I need to alter some settings. I keep thinking I must be missing something because, if the service is this unreliable, why would anyone bother with it? Is it the network, or is it some hidden setting in my phone or laptop that's messing things up?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

David Tong.
