i use my pay as you go sim card and every time i send a text it makes that annoying message tone and tells me my balance-is there any way to get rid of this or to make mp3 tones as message tones?

I'm guessing from what you are saying, you have an o2 sim card. If so, it's a network thing, o2 pay & go always text your balance to you after each call or text message, i don't think there is a way to turn it off on the phone. And no you cannot have mp3's as an sms tone you can only use the pre-defined ones.
