Does anyone have any idea how to disable the gsm radio on a phone (particularly the T610)

I have one in which the mike doesn't work, so is useless as a phone. However it is still a viable camera. I want to disable the radio to save power and prevent the radio searching for networks. Since the phone (camera) is for my father to play with (he can't afford a new camera mobile), and we live in a low reception area, I don't want him carrying around Two mobile phones pumping out a strong signal all day.

I may be paranoid, nevertheless does any one have any ideas? I can enable manual network selection, but the radio is still active (you can see the reception bars go up and down as reception changes, even though a network is not selected....)

If I remove the antenna, will that reduce the emission, or will it pump harder trying to get a signal?

Any ideas will be appreciated..

yeah I've tried that five times - it fixes the IR for about half a file transfer, then it craps out. Also, BT is stuffed, Mike is stuffed, everything else works. But without a mike, you can't use it as a phone.

@nitesh... a radio does'nt necessarily mean one that you listen to music on
a gsm radio is nothing but a transmitter/receiver in the phone which locks on to a network

The phone has a GSM radio which transmits at a frequency around 2000MHz. This radio is the means by which your voice is trasmitted across the airways to the person on the other end of the line (put simply).

An "FM Radio" used for listening to music on, receives at a frequency of about 100 MHz. A T610 does not have a radio capable of reception in that frequency range my friend , and therein lies the answer!

The K700 does however
