I take for granted that the original media player (k750i) can't play .spc files, you know, the music dumps from SNES Roms. I was wondering, are there, like a dll that can enable this? Or another media player? It would be really nice since converting them to mp3 makes them.. about 1000 times bigger ^_^.

no but they are probably pcm audio streams - there should be something out there capable of converting them to wav atleast - then to amr or what ever...

Do a google on it..

Not interested. It's SPC or mp3 for me. AMR sounds like crap anyhow.

@Forsyth_88, I didn't say you HAD to use amr, I just meant once it is in wav format you can convert it to anything YOU want.

So what's the quality of snes spc files anyhow - I didn't think it'd be much better than amr quality anyway? Is it stereo 16bit or something? I had assumed 8bit mono but I don't know anything about snes, other than I loved Street Fighter II!

Okay I just reread your original post - if you already have a mp3 file, just compress it to a lower bit rate. mp3 (or even better aac) should have much better compression than your spc files. I can't see how they could be 1000 times bigger (for the same quality) as an spc file otherwise everyone would use snes spc to encode music files

The thing is, a SPC uses pre-defined sounds, kind of like MIDI. That means every single one takes 65 kB, no matter how long they are.

So, maybe 1000 times bigger was a bit of making a chicken out of a feather, but at least about 70 times bigger. But that of course, depends on the lenght of the song.

okay that's making sense. But if you can get it into wav you should be able to compress to a small mp3? Once it's a wav, it's no longer bound by the spc limitations, you should be able to compress it quite a lot?

I must admit I know nothing about spc files...
