There are no virus's that can affect a K750i. The virus's that you get on your pc cant affect your phone.

Windows Anti-virus would pick up viruses designed to attack Windows (hence the name). But as your phone doesn't run Windows it won't be affected.

A virus is self-replicating, which has yet to be done on the SE phones OS.

Potentially someone could make a Trojan Java application which could access the phones files and delete contacts possibly, but it wouldn't be a virus.

I think java runs in a secure platform diferent from the phone so if there is a virus it won't affect the phone

It is possible to write a virus for the K750i, in fact there is already one, a Java virus.

I forget the name of it, but a few months back someone made a Java game for Nokia phones (and any other phone that plays Java games) which froze the phone up and locked the user out. You'd have to remove the battery to start the phone again.

I think there was also one which sent your contacts or appointments or something to the internet when you tried to upload game scores.

Neither were very threatening.

Hmm...i remeber vineet_d had a problem with his k700, when he installed some game and the phone froze on him....nothing he could possibly do would revive it...fortunately it was under a warranty and he got a replacement.....im wondering now, if it was a virus which did it in..

More likely to be a game which wasn't designed for his phone specifically, and hadn't been tested for the differences in Java Runtime Environments between phone models.

Just because a program crashes, doesn't automatically mean its a virus...

Plus, as I said above... a virus is self-replicating i.e a piece of code that is capable of copying itself and distributing itself to other devices.

A malicious program that makes your computer or phone crash IS NOT a virus unless it can replicate itself.

So if its not a virus, what is it ?

In the literal meaning yes, a virus is self replicating, but i expect it does not have to be true for software viruses.

The virus of which i mentioned was one which was hidden inside a Java game - almost like a trojan. The owner downloaded the game for free and installed it, played it, and didnt realise the game was also a virus.

Im not sure if it sent itself out via Bluetooth or MMS, but it certainly acted like a virus and caused negative effects.

even in the tech world a virus is generally considered to be self-replicating or self-distributing. the instance of the java thing was probably a specifically designed software app disguised as a game or dodgy software.

the only mobiles really at risk of viruses are smartphones (and then usually only symbian series 60 OS), and even that is minimal due to the relatively low market penetration of such devices.

Yup..... the greater risk are in smart phones, specifically with symbian.
And even on smart phones is not that rampant.
