> Connecting pc to t68 via usb cable
Bookmark topic
Hi all,
I am attempting to connect my T68i to my PC with a USB data cable. I have installed the R4A Package 4 software but am unable to get my PC to recognise the existence of my phone. I gather from other threads that I may have to somehow map the USB port to a COM port - Any advice which anyone could offer as to how to do this would be most appreciated.
Also, when I connect my phone to the USB port the PC detects it as a new USB device but I am unable to locate a driver to install for the T68i - Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

Froddan - Thanks for your reply - I had actually already seen the message you referred me to but I did not understand what you meant by stating that the creation of a virtual com port "can be done with the windows installer" - Apologies for my lack of understanding but would you mind elaborating on the process by which the virtual com port is created?

Plug in the usb cable, windows will detect a new hardware and ask for its location and drivers. You just select, for example com 5, and since it's a cable you won't need any drivers for it. Then open SE mpm and enable the com port you chose for the cable, once you enable the right one the icon changes.
Depends on the win version, win might also select the com port for you. Then you just open mpm, as described above.

Froddan - Again thank you for your (very speedy!) reply - Unfortunately I have not yet managed to resolve my problem. I should clarify that I am running Win98 SE in case that makes any difference. When I connect the USB cable windows detects the new hardware and offers me the options of searching for an appropriate driver or displaying all drivers in a specific location.
The former option does not help as I have no driver to install - Choosing the second option brings up a list of devices from which to select the device being installed. There is no entry for T68 or 'phone' or anything similar - Should I select 'Ports (COM & LPT)'? If I do so windows goes on to install a standard COM port driver for the phone which doesn't seem to achieve anything. At no time am I offered the option to assign the device to any COM port, as your message seems to envisage.
I am guessing that I'm being impossibly dense about something that is quite simple, but I'm completely stuck here - Any further clarification which you could offer would therefore be most appreciated
Thanks!

Try to just ignore the drivers. I don't have a usb cable myself, but I don't think you need any drivers for a cable.
Anyone knows if you need it here? Someone with a usb cable?
Plug the phone to your pc with the cable, open the mobile phone monitor, and enable all com ports, you can also book them to detect your phone. One of them must be the right one. Change the setting for the mpm icon to show only when a phone is connected, that way you'll see when it's ok. Usually com 3 or com 5 for usb connection.
If this doesn't work, then the cable might be defect.

Sorry,
I have the DCU-10 cable. From what I have experienced during setup, you DO NEED a driver.
You should read the PDF instruction file inside the CD that comes with your cable. The instructions are pretty clear; even in specifying the difference in installing among different Windows version. From the instructions, you need to know where the driver folder is located. After that, when you plug in the USB cable, the PC will prompt you to look for a driver. Insert the CD that comes with your DCU-10 cable and direct the path to the folder that contains the driver and everything will be set for your automatically.
The instructions also provide steps to check if the driver is properly installed.
A little horror news for you is that, if I remember correctly, the system requirements that are stated on the box did not include Windows 98SE. I had tried to install the driver in my Macintosh via Virtual PC (which is Windows 98SE) but the PC did not recognise any driver present even after directly the path to the correct folder. Then again, it is a Mac via Virtual Pc which I am endeavouring.
Hope the above works for you and all the best.
