i am trying to connect to internet dialup service (aol, netzero) using serial cable and T68 as the modem for my laptop. It dials out, but will not connect to either service. My signal strength is 3 out of 5 on phone signal. Could that be a problem? Also, Phone Monitor does not recognize phone and troubleshooter doesnt work. Ive seen this problem in other threads, so i tried uninstall, reload, reboot, loaded dcom98.exe since im using Win98se. Nothing would get Phone Monitor to recognize it, but everything else sees it and says it working properly. It shows as t68 cable modem, diagnostics in windows shows it working correctly.
Seems like everything is working. Im just wondering if the signal is too weak or baud too slow for aol and netzero to allow to connect. The phone dials, and shows connecting, but the internet service shows unable to make connection.
Any help is appreciated

Which modem speed would you like to use? Start trying from the lower speeds (from 9.6k). You can setup the modem speed with the modem init string. The sonyericssonmobile modem setup program do it automaticly. If one speed is working lets try the next higher. This post was posted from a T68i

First, you need to subscribe to CSD/HSCSD or GSM data service of your mobile phone service provider before you can use dial-up connections.

I initially had similar problems! Make sure all your settings are correct even if you sent them to your phone via se website cup that was the problem with mine! You are using the se software too? This post was posted from a T68i

thanks for the replies:

I am using ericsson modem software and have it set on 9600baud figuring the slower connection would be more stable.

I am in a GSM/GPRS service area using AT&T service. I have used the ATT software and connected my laptop successfully on the GPRS(data?) side. Problem with that is $$ per Kbyte of data. Its about $4 US to do a simple stock transaction online. I need to do about 20 per day, so .... yikes...

I have not downloaded anything to my phone since purchased. The se software i refer to is the Windows 98 second edition. Is there something i need to send to my phone to make it work properly.

Again thanks for the info, at least I know I am getting closer to solving this puzzle. More advice is appreciated.

thanks mclass55, I installed My Pictures, and it found my phone. Now when i go to MPM it sees my phone. Thats the good news. I still cannot connect to internet dialup services. To make sure ISP accepted 9600 baud, i installed my regular (wired, pcm card) modem into laptop and slowed its baud rate to 9600. It connected to ISP (AOL) no problem, so at least I know speed shouldnt be a connect problem. I reconfigured my comm ports for 9600, and played with all the buffer settings. Still cannot get a wireless connection. The T68 dials out just fine but will not make a connection on the ISP side. I appreciate the time folks spend offering suggestions. Keep 'em coming

Did you use the AOL program to look and install "new modem"? and then select t68 as the modem?
