I've just taken the flip off my P910i, and my immediate thought is -- why did I wait 8 months to do this?!

With the virtual flip (which supports T9 and speed dialling like the physical flip) and the screen QWERTY keyboard, it would seem I've lost nothing, yet gained convenience, less weight and (IMHO) improved styling.

But am I missing something? Is there some negative impact of using the phone with the flip off that I need to be aware of? Your experiences / thoughts would be appreciated.

the flip is designed in such a way that ur screen is protected from directly getting scratches and/or bumps when say - its in ur jeans pocket.

Or in other words, risk of getting ur screen scratched and/or damaged is greater with the flip off. Just my experience

Get a good screen protector (because of scratches) and improve your handwrinting.
Also, for convenience, use some keymapper to map one of the keys to call the virtual numeric keypad.
You will not miss the flip. I removed it last year and never returned back!

The Durasec http://www.durasec.com/us/produkte.html is a very thick screen protector which will last ages - it has drag propeties which makes using the stylus a bit like using a 2B pencil.
The Martin Fields protector http://www.overlayplus.co.uk/[....]uct.asp?model=P910&modeln=P910 is also excellent but thinner and, like the screen itself, smooth.

With respect, on the P910i you can! The virtual flip exacts in precisely the same way as the physical flip.

Batesie, thanks for that thread. I did already see it when I searched the forum beforehand, but it's mainly to do with the P800 and the P900. The P910 does appear to have enhanced 'flip off' functionality than the earlier models -- T9 support for instance, so I'm after P910-specific info.
