Thanks for all the replies.
I'm currently searching for a good one with a nice price tag on the web.
And yes, l'm going for the XTrac III because it seems to be so much better than the others.

This thing of using a phone like a PDA and then using this phone-PDA thing like a handheld GPS is good for giving you a few of headaches.
But if it works, who cares?
IMHO, I would rather have a good smartphone + good bluetooth gps than a average handheld gps.
Besides, I'm searching for the best of the best in GPS chipsets (star III).

By who?? In what way.. its a one box solution which is an advantage and will be as accurate and probably more. I have a Garmin and it was good but no better than this. How much accuracy do you want... BT is where the manufacturers are putting their development. A Sirf III BT is pretty impressive. If all you want is your co-ordinates then of course a hand held will suffice but its stuck with the on board software and no GPRS connection. The PDA has a choice of software and you can load in maps from any source this way or even satelite images. GPRS means traffic updates and loading maps you don't have onboard as you need them. Plus if you carry your phone anyway its a much smaller solution.

And i actually need it for my job (topographer) to know the exact cooradinates of a spot,not just to play with the maps and hope not to get lost!

Hi, i've been reading some reviews too, and i think the best are holux 236 and globalsat 338.
I'm planning to buy the holux its more recent and it brings the new firmware.
