there is so much confusion about this in several threads.

People saying things like W800 only supports mp3 (because that's what disc2phone rips), and that W800 has rigid folder structures, or that you can't drag and drop files into W800 and play thru mediaplayer!! Did they even try?

They are making it so hard for themselves. The first thing these people need to do is drop disc2phone and start to learn a bit about their phone

ive bluetoothed files to my phone into my memory card and they dont work in the walkman media player. So i dont think this statement is correct

Disc2phone is just an easy to use mp3 ripper/transcoder/transfer software. It doesnt do anything specifically for the phone.

You dont need it any way, neither to be able to play the files on your phone, neither to be able to transfer at high speeds.

Any supported mediafile, mp3, mp4, m4a etc converted in any way, can be transfered to the correct folders in any way possible to the memorycard and played in the walkman mediaplayer.

Edit:
Then youve bluetoothed them the wrong way (into the wrong folder) or bluetothed nonsupported files.

Any supported musicfile placed in the audio folder in any way will play
Any supported mp4/3gp file placed in the video folder in any way will play

@numb

fair enough, i will try this when i get home and then maybe eat some humble pie!! i guess it would work if i dragged and droppped in into the 'mp3' folder in the memory stick, as opposed to just right-clicking the file and sending it as doing that just sends it to the 'sounds' folder. Im no noobie to doing this, just actually thought that u had to use disc2phone

no problem, I didnt read it as if you were noob at all, just a small misunderstanding about the disc2phone software

okay ryan, so what you are saying is that something I can do easily on my K750 (I just bluetoothed an mp3 and it's available through mediaplayer) can't be done on the W800?

Or that K750 can use mp4 files, but W800 can only use MP3 files because that's what disc2phone supports?

I find that hard to believe. In fact the specs for W800 on SE website say it supports AAC. If you are saying you need disc2phone then I think you are jumping to conclusions. Why would W800 be hobbled compared to the K750? If that was the case why would anyone buy the W800?

EDIT, sorry dude didn't mean to be down on anyone. I just think we should all try and be sure of our facts before giving advice to people about what can and can't be done.

Most of the threads to do with W800 have info on this. A simple search reveals these facts (I don't have a w800 but have read every post in every thread on esato about the phone, in order to decide to flash my k750 to a w800 or not, so I do have some info about it)

@numb thats cool mate ::-): i actually think i know what my issue is here, theres a problem about putting folders of music ie whole albums on the memory card and playing them through the 'artists' menu in the walkman. I just tested that i can play individual songs in the walkman player but i remember when i tried to bluetooth a whole album it said i must use disc2phone. i think masseur started a thread about this 'W800 Walkman Capabilities Disscusion'

@maxwedge yeh soz mate, i think i didnt understand my own issues earlier. Didnt mean to sound rude, as i say above there seems to be a problem with W800 playing whole albums through the media player. I can play individual mp3s in the media player....

Just checked it at work with random sample mp3 files at work:

http://www.dadatheband.com/audio/audiofeed.shtml

Put it in the same folder, label the folder with artists name etc.

It does play! Works perfectly - we dont need to use Disc2Phone - WAY HEY!

no probs mate

It is a shame that disc2phone is so limited. (I installed it to have look, pretty basic, although it is a free MP3 ripper). One of many disapointments is that you can't use it to create playlists on the phone.

Here's a tip that works on the K750, but I'm not sure how it works in the W800: if I have folders of songs on the memory stick, I have to create playlists on the phone and add those folders each to it's own playlist. Then you can play the songs in that folder (by using the playlist) without having to go through one big mass of songs.

Don't know if that helps at all.....

Note, on the K750, you have to store songs (or folders of songs) in the audio folder in MSSEMCMedia Filesaudio, or in the MP3 folder on the memory stick root... if you store them anywhere else you can't even see the files from the phone.
