well, the k-jam is certainly a breath of fresh air to the Jam with its slide out keyboard i nthe same size factor. screen orientation changes automatically to landscape, as you might expect, when you slide the keyboard out and then changes back to portrait when you slide the keyboard back in again.
I am a little dissapointed that the system tray icon used on the JAM and the JasJar for changing screen orientation is missing on the k-jam. I can only assume they assume you will almost always use the device in portrait mode when the keyboard is closed and in landscape mode when it is open. The only alternative now is to use 3rd party software or assign a hardware button to screen oritentation changes.
the keyboard has a nice tactile feel, the keys are well sized and spaced but... the numeric row of digits are placed as shift keys on the QWERTYUIOP row so that takes a little getting used to
I was a little conerned at the OMAP850 processor's speed rating of 200mhz but the device is quite snappy and just about as responsive as my JasJar
It really does have a mini-SD slot making the 2 x 2gb SD cards I have been using in recent ipaqs, my jam and jasjar totally redundant in this unit which is a shame since it could easily have accomodated the standard size SD cards just as well.
The inclusion of direct access to hotmail as well as msn messenger in windows mobile 5 as part of a "pocket MSN" package is nice and there is no need to actually be an MSN member as long as you have a hotmail account
thats it for now so here are a few pics...
the k-jam stylus closed vs JasJar stylus
and then the k-jam stylus open vs JasJar stylus (I prefer the JasJar stylus feel btw)
the blue backlit k-jam keypad...
vs the red backlit keyboard of the JasJar

thanks for the quick update masseur .is there much difference between the k-jam and the jam-i really would not like to waste extra pounds on the keypad only

unfortunately for me, logic doesn't come into it much and I just have to at least test the latest and greatest
if I were to speak impartially and without personal preference I would have to say that what was a slightly sub £400 Jam is not really worth selling for sub £300 in order to replace with a device which currently is around £500 where the main benefit is a hard keypad (vs a soft keypad), especially when you consider the amount of software that currently is not windows mobile 5 compatible such as worldmate, avantgo (although its partially compatible) and various others
The Jam is still a great device and windows mobile 2003 second edition still offers most of what is available ni windows mobile 5. if you are not in the position where money is no concern I would definitly recommend hanging on to the fabulous Jam for another 6 months, at the very least, until more software is compatible and the k-jam reduces to more reasonal pricing levels

Masseur
In the phone's user guide is there any reference to supporting Line 2 (i.e. for when it comes out on Orange). Would really appreciate if you could look when you get a chance.
Thanks
