I live in NC and used a P900 on Cingular for quite some time. Never had any problems. Since then I've upgraded to a P910a. I really don't think there should be any incompatability issues using a P800 on Cingular other than the lack of 850 for RF in some areas.

Well, I now have a solution of sorts. It doesn't prompt me with " U have new voicemail, do u want to check now...? but I now get a small message icon on the top right which basically informs me of new voicemail. I had to joggle the preferences from immediate notice to standard then back to immediate. I guess that will do.

That is about as good as its going to get I think.

As far as Cingular dropping 850, why should they? The US does not allow the use of 900, and the lower frequency signals penetrate better, providing better coverage in areas with lots of buildings and walls. So in many areas 850 is preferable to 1900 if you have it. Just because T-Mobile has thus far refused to put up 850 sites does not mean they are worthless. Other countries use 850 as well, its not just a US thing. Granted every 850 provider is in the Americas, but 850 doesn't appear to be the problem anymore, it seems that his phone is at fault.

Sure there is a bit of a lack of variety for 850 phones, but I blame that on American phone buying culture more than anything. If us Americans would start buying phones that aren't on contract or start demanding more features, maybe copanies like SE and Moto would pay more attention.

Look at the GSM world. Europe, Africa, Asia. Lots of compatibilty there. Yet Cingular incompatible with Sprint, Sprint incompatible with T-mobile, T-mobile incompatible with Verizon, Verizon incompatible with Nextel. We are getting really hosed here in the US.

Yeah, but those incompatibilities have little or nothing to do with the 850 band and everything to do with the providers in the US that refuse to switch to GSM. There is no incompatilibility problem with the rest of the world if you are just careful to buy a Quad-Band phone and use it with Cingular. I don't see why you brought Verizon, Sprint or Nextel into a Discussion about why Cingular should drop the 850 band, because being purely 1900 isn't gonna make Nextel magically compatible with Cingular.
