it frankly does'nt really matter to me what time it shows, but since this was being discussed, i thought it appropriate to share my observation.
p.s: the time of my last post reads 4.40 am on my system...but edit time reads 23:42....

maybe something wrong with my system...my pc clock is set to EST and it reads a 6:48 PM right now

that'll just be the server time and since the server is located in Norway you're seeing GMT+2 (or British summer time + 1 if you like)

Hmm....Looks like the post time is aligned with the zone I select in the user prefs ....but edit time is set by default to GMT.....Im guessing you guys have selected GMT as local time, so you dont see much of a difference.....no sweat...its not a big deal at all
p.s I set my time zone to GMT and it looks fine w.r.t edit time now
