Yes, well, I was so upset about it that I ordered the W800i! It was the first time I had broken a phone....anyway, I managed to switch it on with a metal device.

Why u didn't tried the update trick ???

while the phone is turned off... press & hold the 'c' botton and connect the USB Cable to the phone, keep holding the 'c' botton for a while... I think you will have a chance to turn it on in the update mode...

any way, could we have some pics ??? and where that online guide you use for opening it ??

Replacing or just removing the housing of the k750i/w800i shouldn't be very hard, just do it with all the possible care (as with every phone).
The most difficult phone i've managed to take apart, was the SE S700i.
It has a lot of parts and you have to be very careful not to lose any screws
