i have airtel connection. i m form mumbai. the speed is around 27kilo bits. i have nokia 3230 which is edge enabled. i had called the help line and told them about lower speeds and they said they would be looking into the matter and acc. to them a edge enabled handset must get speeds around 50kb atleast. i have subscribed for mobile office which is @ rs. 12 per day here but data download is unlimited. does anybody know any setting or anything by which i can get good speeds.

Thanks Whizkidd, but i would like to point out that the i can see the message "airtel connected at 115000 bps" .......

That message just tells you the maximum achievable modem speed, and can be changed or altered under advanced options in modem properties. Usually a good gprs connection should give you between 8-10kbps. Which isn't bad I must say. I'm getting 2-4.5kbps peak and approximately 7kbps off peak.

Rakesh,
Using the N 3230(EDGE), in mumbai you should be getting a connectivity speed of around 128kbps, more than 10Kb/s download speed. I used to get those speeds around 1 month back. Now the speed is barely 40~50kbps, with download speed< 5kb/s. I have checked in various areas of Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai. The speed remains the same. Can someone confirm any problems with Airtel Mumbai of recent. I called Customer Service, and tech support, they say they have forwarded the problem. Nothing is being done....

I'm using a Nokia 9300, which is Class 10 GPRS handset with EGRPS (Edge). I use a dku-2 to connect it to my PC. IR is slower than USB cable

First of all edge is not implemented in airtel mumbai. It's only for airtel live tv.I am telling from my personal experience ,i connected my 6630(class 10 edge handset)to toshiba laptop by supplied dku-2 usb cable. On connecting,it said connection at 250kbps.Actual speed was not more than 15 kbps in night. At day time,it max out at 10kbps.So i dont see point in getting edge enabled handset only for this purpose of airtel. And now they charge 400 bucks per month for 100mb so i will say using mtnl broadband for 500 rs per month, and 1gb download cap is much better deal.In my ho.

Dr. Pratik, Airtel Mumbai has implemented EGDE- atleast that's what they claim. Airtel Mumbai, says GRPRS download speed should be around 14~18kb/s and connectivity speed of around 200kbps
However I get dl speeds now around 3~4kb/s and connectivity speed (as tested) of around 28kbps (peak time) and 40kbps (non-peak) which is pathetic by EDGE standards....
I'm also considering other options...
I use a N9300 with dku-2 USB cable.
Thanks (anyone facing a similar speed problem with Airtel Mumbai?)

@sudipt... i get twice that speed with a non EDGE device...and ive changed 6 devices over the past 12 months..on the same network ...so it probably has to do with the device you're using ... Nokia, is it

Twice? The best im able to get is 6kBps during off peak, during peak it goes down to 2.I tried several phones btw.
So edge should give you around 18kBps during off peak and around 10 during peak .Im on airtel btw.
