In the mid 90s rap and hip hop wasnt very big in the UK. Maybe now with all the little Ja Rule and 50 wannabes its growing, same here in SA.

I'm impressed that several members think Tupac is such a good rapper - I'll have to track down some of his music.
I saw one of his movies a few years ago on DVD at a friends house. It was a little violent for my taste but still OK.
Tupac is well known in NZ but mainly because of his 'legend' than any #1 singles or blockbuster movies.
The 'Every Breath You Take' tribute did very well down here, but then so did the original (I'm old enough to remember). In a 'Q' magazine interview, Sting was less than complimentary about Tupac and the quality of the remake of his song...
Edit: For the record, I don't like Iron Maiden or Metallica, but do like Creed, Audioslave, Bush and Velvet Revolver.
I also like old-school dance such as Black Box, Tecnotronics, 2 Unlimited and Culture Beat.
And I have been a fan of Kylie Minogue since her days on Neighbours in OZ. How's that for varied tastes!

To me it's simple. I grew up in a rough neighbourhood during the heyday of apartheid when the only way out was either being in a gang or gaining an education. I was fortunate enough to claw my way out of the gangs and work my butt off to get some education and help pay for the education of my brother and sister. Most of my gang buddies were killed, so when Pac sings, i can relate. I happen to enjoy his music... I also enjoy some Mozart, Debussy, Creed, Reggae and a very eclectic range in music, so i don't knock anybody's tastes. Bottom line is that they all sing better than i do anyway!

everyone is a 'gangsta' i hear it so many times, 1 or 2 are quite alright...as you said kryptik, i cant really knock them, as they do sing better than i do aswell... Unless its screaming music

Listen guys if you are really serious about your Hip Hop, I have one of the rarest Hip Hop collections going.
After meeting Suge Night and Tupac back in LA in 1996, I picked up some real treats.
I think I might be one of the only people in this country, to have such a rare collection.
