airnet (data only)| 200 - 700kbps | P950 +vat a month, unlimited.*
airnet (voice + dialup) | 70-120kbps | P550 or P750 + vat for voice rate. they charge extra for toll calls, and P2 for every 5 minutes.
*The catch here is that you need to buy a data card. They're selling it for P16,000. There are options for deferred payment or you can rent it.

Smart's "WiFi" is what we call fixed wireless. You can't use it in your car unless you decide to park it
permanently on a specific spot and configure it to pick up a signal from a specfic base station.
It's actually Meridian Telekoms "DSL" service - which is partly owned by Smart/PLDT.
(Why do these marketing people insist on redefining terms to suit their own needs?!)
Also note that Globe's Visibility and PLDT's WeRoam service also offers unlimited access to WiFi hotspots and dialup access in their high-end plans.

I agree.
But globe and pldt doesn't offer pure gprs/edge. they offer wifi and dialup access as well.
cdma2000 1x and cdma2000 1x ev-do for mango and bagoong. err .. airnet, i mean.
"hotspot" usually means a WiFi access area. This means 802.11x, including bluetooth?
Smart "WiFi" / Meridian Wireless. Some are arguing that it's technically WiFi because 802.11b bridges are actually used to connect the user to the network.
The usual WiFi connection is userWiFiISP but Smart/Meridan's setup is userEthernetWiFiISP .
So, yun.

SMS from landline phones has been available for several years now but it's not as popular as mobile phone based SMS.
Is America really lagging in technology? No, I don't think so. Baka sa mobiles lang.

yeah mobile/wireless mostly. some companies has EV-DO i think. The connection is fast as mobile video calls are possible. we have CDMA, TDMA, IDEN and GSM as well. stupid freq of 1900mhz tho. good thing cingular's 850mhz are working in some states. i havent seen my $1,100+ imate jasjar with full bars of signal.. that's how bad these s2pd 1900mhz is. don't get me wrong tho, voice quality is crisp.
