agree with cycovision here, also check the cards fan is working. the card will have a fan on top try to see if its spinning. if not or doesnt look like its doing much. turn the comp off and take the power lead out then follow the wire from the fan to were it plugs in. it wont be very far a matter of inchs and make sure its got a good connection.
everest will give you details of what card you are running and at what agp x so if you do have to buy another on this will give you a start point in what to look for.
you may want to enter the bios and make sure that if the board has on board graphic this is turned off, dont thing its that as you would get more problems but worth a look.
if you think it may be the board try to borrow ( i know this wont be easy) a friends graphics card to run in your board to a week to see if the problem occurs

it depends on your current board and what agp speed it runs at ie if the board can only support a 4x agp card buying a agp8x card can cause problems because of the volts difference.
post your motherboard make and model and ill try to offer advise and im sure others will also do the same

i have a dig around now see what i can turn up. you could try uninstalling the current graphic drivers then searching for a file called "nvidia display drivers" deleting that then reinstalling the lastest drivers, might do bugger all but its free and worth a try

Ermmmm... Don't update your BIOS. I really don't think that is what's causing your problem. It's risky even if you're experienced at doing it. If you Accidentally download the wrong BIOS, if there's a power cut while you're doing it or if the floppy disk you use is a bit ropey, you can kill your motherboard. Literally! There's no way to repair a bad BIOS flash because 99.9% of the time the PC will not boot at all afterwards. The the only solution is to get a new BIOS chip.
And by the time you've done that, bought it, paid for postage etc. it usually works out cheaper to buy a new motherboard
I really think your PC needs a trip to the computer doctors. You've done just about everything you can by the sounds of it. One more thing I would suggest is that you update the chipset (specifically the AGP) drivers for your motherboard, not the graphics drivers which you've already done!

depnds on the bios maker some are delete as comps boot some f10. amibios is defo delete. thats the one thats been on my last 3 boards the others i have no ideas about.
been digging around and it looks like your board supports agp 4x, now here could be a small problem.
im not 100% certain that you can just wack one of the new agp 8x into an old board and have it work flawlessly.
you may need to check that the board is supporting agp 3.0, everest should tell you this.
if it does then theres a good change you can put in a modern card like a 6600gt it wont run at 8x but will run at 4x and you will still see a marked improvment.
cycovision maybe better placed to offer more technical advise on this as im just a novice
