Yes the back is fairly easy to get of.
Just be careful if you ise a screwdriver not to damage the casing.
Best way is to take the battery out, then use a screwdriver to push the two catchs up from the inside.
i.e. push the case from inside where the battery goes, it should then easily just come off.

Thanks, I see now. I do have to remove the screws AND use a knife... Gosh, I'll be scared doing that. But I think I'm out of options since this isn't covered by warranty anyway...

Success!!!
Guys, I just successfully performed microsurgery on my K750i. I got the back off my phone easier then I had feared, and once it was off it was quite easy to see what the problem was.
Just like we thought, the small microswitch that sits behind the lens cover and detects whether the cover is slided open or not had gotten slightly bent and the leg of the switch caught behind a plastic part.
With trembling fingers I used a small screwdriver to pry the leg back in place and the camera immediately sprung into action!
I popped the back on and now I've got working camera action again!
Thanks everybody for helpful hints and tips in this thread. I'm once excited and happy K750 owner once again!
