I can only relate my positive experiences. My laptops have been vaios since the P800 and I have never experienced a connectivity issue with any of the P series, nor with the T and K series. This includes when I get a new pc and also when I reset my pc back to factory condition using the recovery disks that Sony provide.
So I am always puzzled that people experience problems with the pc connectivity software and its a shame because if I too had these issues I might be able to explore and find reasons

Had same issues with the p800 back when I had it. It had to do with selecting the port on which phone monitor searches for the device.

The reason that people have problems is that they have either bought their phone second hand and there is corrupt data on the phone to stop it from docking with the PC, or their DSS-25 is Faulty. Its amazing the amount of faulty DSS-25s that I've had returned to my old store.

I have had a P800 and P910i and both synced with my PC without any trouble. I connected using the Dss-20/25 and via bluetooth.

It seems a bit Ironic that all the people that get problems are the people who need or want to sync.
All I use mine for is updating and I have never had an issue with any of my p-series phones with any of my PC's or Notebooks.
However my brother has problems with his K-Series and his Vaio PC.

I still sync with my P800 , P900 , P910,K750,W800 etc. There are many things thaat have to be considered when no connection is seen.
P-series phones....other models are simular.
1.Anti-virus needs to be dissabled.
2.Have a look in the device manager that the drivers for the SEMC DSS-20/25 is installed.
3.Disconnect from network, server etc as it could have highr security settings.
4.Make sure your phone is set to pc connect.
5.The USB port and the back of pc must be used and do NOT use a USB root hub, they don't work.
6.On Pc go to control panel, phone monitor, com ports and make sure the com port is enabled that is displayed in the phone connection link next to "USB" NOT CABLE!!!!!!!
Hope this helps.

I only had this when I forgot to set the CABLE connect in control panel to Modem and not PC connect. Then it will indeed never connect with a DSS/DCU/DRS device!
Once had to replace a P900 coz it switched automatically to modem when it powered on (and signal led remain on permanently, not even hard reset helped anymore), so a backup or reflash became impossible. SE couldn't understand why after servicing it, and just gave me a brand new p900 to 'fix' the issue...
I never had a connect issue between p800/p900/p910 on Windows2000 SP4 with USB1 or USB2 and WinXP SP1+SP2 with USB1 or USB 2 over hub or direct connect
So I think it's another PEBCAK case.

My wife's P900 connects without a problem and all the cable settings in the control panel are identical between the two phones. Still think it's a PEBCAK case? A $15 memory card reader can reliably connect & transfer data between itself and a PC at high speed without even installing any drivers, so why not my relatively expensive phone?

After playing around with what feels like a million different settings I finally have a little progress.
The symbol on the toolbar at the bottom now shows as "connected".
Open up the change phone option and it displays "sony ericsson" under unkown phones.
However highlighting and selecting OK has no effect.
Where to next ?
